What is Bouldering?
Bouldering is climbing that is done without ropes which are replaced by a large crash mat at the base of the wall. Bouldering walls are typically much lower than roped walls, the bouldering at Alter Rock is 4m high.
Bouldering problems can range in difficulty from climbs not much harder than a ladder to climbs using finger tip sized hand and foot holds. At Alter Rock we try to cater for as wide a range of people as possible and the holds are changed on a regular basis.
- Anyone over 18 is welcome to come to Alter Rock at any time, register and climb on the bouldering wall without any previous experience. We will give you a safety brief before you start.
- If you are aged 14 – 17, you can boulder at Alter Rock without supervision providing that a parent or guardian has been to the climbing centre and completed a registration form to give consent.
- Children 14 or under must be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian, (max 2 children to 1 adult) or join our Junior Climbing Club, and learn to climb and boulder with other youngsters.
